On 14 May 2020, the Polyphonic Song Day is celebrated for the fifth year. An informal institution which started with the initiative of the Polyphonic Caravan in 2016 and, every year since then, has been welcoming new groups, cities and countries in the celebration.

This year the celebration takes place under the particular circumstances of the pandemic which are deterring for big, public gatherings and mass events. This is why we decided to celebrate the Day online today, sharing videos with polyphonic songs, promoting the folk polyphony, in this way searching for the meeting with the other cells of polyphony, either in the same or in different cities and countries.

More and more groups are responding to the call for an online celebration and the polyphonic song is being "heard" the more and more during the day. In parallel, with the Polyphonic Caravan's initiative, an online polyphonic song concert is being prepared for the last day of Spring, on Sunday 31st of May. On that day, for two hours, a program made of videos from different groups, coming from different cities and countries, will be broadcasted.

The fifth celebration of the Polyphonic Song Day takes place in ways adjusted to the circumstances of mutual protection, with the expectation to soon meet each other in person, sing again one next to the other, one along with the other, in the way the polyphonic song wants and requires.

PS: for the preparation of the online concert of the 31st of May, the Polyphonic Song Archive's crew for the field-based recordings and digital processing is available to support every group that needs it in order to share its songs

Big Polyphonic Caravan 2019

The big journey of the voices, the Polyphonic Caravan, at the beginning of its third decade of journey! The Polyphonic Caravan started its journey in 1999 with the organisation of the 1st International Polyphonic Song Meeting. Since then, it travels one, two or three and four times every year, connecting in its route more and more social and natural landscapes of Folk Polyphony.

20 International Polyphonic Song Meetings every summer, from 1999 to 2018, 20 Big Polyphonic Song Festivals every June, from 2000 to 2019, more than twenty seasonal polyphonic caravans during other seasons of the year, are only some of the stations of the everlasting routes of the Polyphonic Caravan. Its contribution to the safeguarding, research, promotion and transmission of the Polyphonic Song is irreplacable!

The manifold and fruitful offer of the Polyphonic Caravan is being more and more ackowledged. It is characteristic that since a few months the Polyphonic Caravan constitutes the first ever proposal from Greece for inscription on the international UNESCO Register of Good Safeguarding Practices in Intangible Cultural Heritage - on a particularly demanding Register where, until today, only 20 practices have been inscribed from all over the world.

During every summer, "Apiros" the non profit organisation which created and organises the Polyphonic Caravan, invites us to the Big Polyphonic Caravan. In the same way this year too, it invites us in a journey signifing the beginning of the third decade of the institution, aspiring to define the new searches, the new horizons of its travel. The 2019 Big Polyphonic Caravan will travel for two weeks, from 29 July to 11 August!

A signal to the future, now at the beginnning of its third decade, the Polyphonic Caravn travels in the Balkans. A collective tracking with continuous border crossings in a search for villages with polyphonic song in Serbia,North Macedonia. A journey that shapes its everyday programme during its course. Participating in GUCA Festival in Serbia on Friday 9 August is a given. The stations before and after that will be defined ...on the road.

The Polyphonic Caravan celebrates its 20 years inviting us at the biggest -throughout the years- polyphony festival!

The biggest polyphonic song meeting not only during 2019 but also throughout all the years in Athens!

Twenty years Polyphonic Caravan! Twentieth Big Polyphonic Song Festival.

The peak an the epitome of a big course. The beginning of an even more beautiful future.

A polyphonic gathering where all those who love the polyphonic song, who struggle for its safeguarding and its transmission, who respect and honor it, have their place in it.

The participant polyphonic ensembles and groups:

«Kirades of Ano Deropoli», Aetopetra, «Delviniotika», «Isokratisses», Kosovitsa, «Pentatono», «Chaonia».

The groups of the Federation of Mourgana, the North Epirotes' Association "Chaones", the Cultural Association "Vouthroto", the Epirotes' Association of Zografou, the Epirotes' Association of Ilioupoli, the Bortherhood of Divri.

The Polyphony Workshop of the Panepirotic Confederation of Greece and "Poliphono" of the Center of Greek Music "Fivos Anogianakis". The ensemble "Io" in polyphonies of Volakas of Drama, Corfu and Greek-speaking South Italy. The polyphonic group of Albanian immigrants LOT KURBETI and the Bulgarian polyphonic ensemble RODINA.

Next to the magic, polyphonic voices, the epirotic music group of Lefteris Gkiokas, defining the beginning and the measure with the epirotic lament and inviting us in big, circular dances at the peak of the festival. With us, also the music group of Christos Danakis of Thrace and the polyphony of bagpipe.

The presale has already began at the price of 8 euros, a price also for students, unemployed, families, associations (group purchasing) at the Theatre's desk. The general entrance fee will be10 euros, after the presale tickets will be sold out. Free entrance for children until 15 years old. You are all welcome!

The Polyphonic Caravan and the Polyphonic Group "Chaonia" in France!

The Polyphonic Group "Chaonia" participates in an International Festival of Polyphonies in France, at the Festival de Polyphonies Tarba en Canta, which exists for 10 years now, representing the Polyphonic Caravan, this year celebrating its 20 years!

A participation in many ways, with a concert dedicated to the polyphonic song of Epirus, with a concert along with other polyphonic groups from all over the world and with two Workshops on the Polyphonic Song of Epirus!
