The new webpage of the Polyphonic Caravan

 

 

 

In the program of the Polyphony Workshop’s seminars, the abundance and variety of the Epirus polyphonic song is emphasized. A special attention is given to the familiarization with the locality of the interpretation through the comparative apprenticeship of the songs variation from place to place. The teaching of the songs is based on the field-based research of the Polyphonic Caravan, the diachronic apprenticeship from the part of the “teachers” of the workshop next to the latest experiential interpreters and the audiovisual materials of the Polyphonic Song Archive as valuable documentation.

 

An indicative, proportionate selection of songs, per region or even village, which are taught at the seminars, is the following:

In the program of the advanced class, the familiarization with songs coming also from other Greek and Greek-speaking genres of polyphony is included as well. The teaching is once again based on the multiyear filed-based apprenticeship and research. Indicatively, the following songs are taught per region:

Finally, for a wider understanding of the polyphonic song dimensions, in the context of vocal tradition, monodies, homophonic or antiphonic songs from different Epirus and Thessaly regions, are also incorporated in the seminars’ program.
